Nursery and Landscape Association issues this certification, and
will only award it to dedicated members of the horticulture industry.
To become a Certified Nursery and Landscape Professional you must
acquire a good understanding of virtually all horticulture subjects.
A CNLP is trained in cultural practices for various plant species,
plant identification and use, soils, environmentally friendly insect
and disease control, nutrient and water requirements, landscape
design and more. To be eligible for this certification you must
meet the following educational requirements:
- Own or work
for a landscape, garden center or nursery establishment in New
Jersey, and
- Have a degree
in horticulture and three years experience in the trade, or,
- You have
ten years experience in the trade.
There
is an 8-week certification program issued at several locations within
the state for those who do not have formal horticulture education
or ten years experience. If eligible, you may take the comprehensive
CNLP examination. Receiving a CNLP certification can only occur
upon completion of this exam with a passing grade. Plus, remaining
certified requires that you continue your involvement with educational
programs within the industry. A Certified Nursery and Landscape
Professional has proved their knowledge and understanding of the
horticulture industry, and will always be considered a reliable
